About Amelia Jane's Dolly Thoughts

About this blog:

I started this blog because I felt the need for a place to freely and honestly share my thoughts about this crazy hobby of Asian ball-jointed dolls without worrying about being censored by deletion, or causing massive fights. There are certain topics that are just not discussed openly in the hobby, such as recasts, plagiarism and fandom mores. I also wanted a place in which I could share honest information with newbies, which is sometimes hard to come by because people have learned to say the "right" things for fear of causing offence, looking bad, or just plain getting posts deleted. I want to post the things I wish I had been able to find out when I started out with bjds, or more exactly, what I would want to find if I was starting now, because bjd fandom has changed radically over just a few years.

It's also a place where I can plan doll purchases and squee over new dolls without boring my family and friends to death. At least, too much. And give honest reviews of dolls without worrying about upsetting someone. I also want to start finding and following doll blogs here, because I feel like I miss out a lot through not being in blogdom.

I'm happy for people to comment, ask questions or disagree in the comments. I will not, however, put up with offensive behaviour - and I get to decide what's offensive. Sorry.

About me:

I'm an adult collector of ball-jointed dolls. I stumbled on bjds - Volks dollfies, because that was all that was out there at the time - in the mid 2000s. Almost despite myself, I now have a large collection. I don't have loyalty to any one particular company, or any one country of origin. I buy what I love, or what I see potential in. I don't really fit in with the bizarrely over regulated Den of Angels, but I hang there for the pretty. I generally think of myself as a pretty nice person, and I'm kind to newbies. I don't, however, always agree with the mainstream in the hobby. This will probably become abundantly clear.
